LETTERS FROM LITTLE FOLKS.
Deae Dot, — I have not written to you for a long time. I was at the Exhibition. I liked it fine. I waa on the switchbaok, I liked the caves and fernery. When we had our holidays I was away for a trip up North. I was in a coal mine. The coal was taken up in a waggon on rails, and it was pulled by a horse. lam in the Fifth Standard. lam going to give you a question — What are the most simple poisons to poison goldfinches ? Please answer my question. — Yours truly, W. Y.
[Strychnine, dissolved in hot vinegar and mixed at the rate of half an ounce to six quarts of water. Put in wheat to soak it up. Prior to laying it plough up a furrow and lay unEoisoned grain for a few days to acoustom the nches to the spot where the poisoned grain is to be laid.— Dot.]
Dear Dot,— lt is soma time Bince I wrote to you, but I always read the little folks' letters. I have been down to the Exhibition. I thought it was very nice. My little brother and I got our photos taken when we were in town. Our little dog Biddy has got two little pups. Please give me names for them. — Youra truly, Lizzib Kkown (aged 8 years). Balfour, May 5, [Patsy and Mickey would do well with Biddy, but I think I should prefer Erin and Colleen. What do you think ?— Dot.]
Dear Dot, — I have never written to you before, but some of my frienda have, and I thought I would do bo also. Igo to school, and am in the Third Standard. Mr Kerr is my teacher, and I like him very much. My brother Louis left school when he was in the Fifth Standard, and he is now packing for a storekeeper. There are a lot of mining claims here, and there is a big dredge working on the flat, and we are expecting to have another on the upper flat. A lot of my friends have been down to see the Exhibition, and I am sorry I could not go to see it before it was closed. — Yours truly, Geoilia Roust. Waipori, May 4 (aged 11 years).
