Cod are Btill very plentiful in the bay, and some very large takes were made last week. Mr Montague and party.on Wednesday, the 7th, caught over 60 fine fish in two hours ; and on Saturday last, the 3rd, Mr G. M.. Marshall, Mr J. Nelson^and two l&dB oaugbt over 140 in three hours. Several skate and ling have also been taken. Old fishermen"predict that they will not go out to sea until we have had some heavy N.E. weather.

The secretary of tbe Acclimatisation Society, Mr Wiikie,'ia making up the returns of the eel harynat. AU thoae gentlemen who received eel pots are requested to at onco sand in an account of what they have caught Bince receiving the traps. I believe somo vary good results were obtained oa rivers ia the South, but I refrain from publishing theise until the whole of the returns are in. If the majorifcyof the returns &tq anything like aB good as those already received, I understand the society intends to devote a much larger sum for the purchase of trnpa next season.

Ekl Trap Record.— Mr P. A. Watt, of Kaikihu, writes :— *' I have set the eel trap several times since my last report and have taken 73 eels weighing from lib to 141b each, Total weight, 2661b. The largest take was 27 eela. I have found no signs of trout in them."

Poaching.— At the R.M. Court at Palmersfcoa on Thursday, Mohi Te Koahi, a Maori, was convicted of offering for palf one trout, without being licensed by the Ofcsgo Acclimatisation Sncinty. He was fined £2 with ooffcs 31r, in default seven dnys' imprisonment with hard labour in Oamaru Gaol.
