Auckland, April 30. la a letter acknowledging the receipt of subscriptions from Auckland to the Irish evicted tenants' fund, Mr Kennedy, M.P., states that New Zealand has shown that she knows how to reconcile the most completa loyalty and patriotism with a hearty spirit of helpfulness towards the persecuted and suffering, and an intense sympathy with those struggling to obtain that measure of freedom which she herself so soberly and worthily enjoys. Henry Thomson as Grand Master of the New Zealand Grand Lodge of Freemasons took place this evening. Over 250 were present at the installation which took place at the Oddfellows' Hall. The scene was most imposing, the hall having been perfectly arranged and beautifully decorated. The ceremony was performed by Bro. E. T. Gillon, assisted by Bro. Vincent Pyke. A large choir under R. Trist Searell rendered the music. After the ceremony the degree of Fast Deputy Grand Master was conferred on Bro. Gillon in recognition of his services, and of Past Grand Secretary on Bro. Robertson (Wellington). A banquet was held subsequently in the hall of the Chamber of Commerce, which was crowded The utmost enthusiasm prevailed.
