LAND BOARD.

The weekly meeting of the Land Board held on Wednesday waa attended by Mr J. P. Maitland (chief commissioner), J. W. Thomaon, W. Dallas, H. Clark", and J. Duncan. Bun 429b.— Consideration was resumed of an application by Mr W. O. Simpson, on behalf of Colin B. Jamieson, asking that the portion of Bun 429b, Containing 2600 acres, lying between the Ahurui river and the survey Gorge creek, be offered as a run to enable him to rent the same from the Grown, it being nt present held by and rented from Campbell and Sons. — It wsb decided to recommend the Governor-in-Council to offer portion of 429b as a separate run as requested. Nknthobn and Stbath-Taibri.— Consideration was resumed of the matter of dealing with lections 1, 2, 3,8t0 13, block II.Nenthorn, and seotionie, block 111, Strath-Taieri, lately held by G. J. Scott under small grazing run lease. The ranger valued the improvements at £739 9a.— Chief commissioner to communicate with Government with a view to the sections being again offered as a small grazing run, under the special circumstances of the case. Kybbdtw, — Messrs Ken yon and Hosking, on behalf of David M'Cready and W. Coombs, applied for a license under the " Ooal Mines Act 1886, for three years, from April 1, 1890, over section 1, Kyeburn, containing three acres, for the purpose of raising lignite.—Application granted at a rental of £5 and license fee £1 is, license to issue for three years from April 1. Njsnthorn.— The Chief Commissioner suggested to the board the advisability of dealing with certain landsinNenthorn district, Bubject to valuation forimprovements as estimated by District SurveyorSaron, and that the following sections be set apart for the purpoies mentioned — viz. : —Sections 1 and 2, block V, for public buildings ; blook IV, for recreation purposes ; and sections Ito 4, 17 to 20, block VI , for educational purposes. A meeting of the Progress Committee had been held, and it was thought desirable that the lands in the district should be opened as suggested. — Consideration of the matter was adjourned for a week. Highlat.— Mr O. B. Griffin's application for a triangle reserve opposite section 24, block 11, Highlay, was declined. Kubow.— A letter was received from Mr R. B. Martin, on behalf of John Smith, opposing Mr W. D. Smith's application on behalf of John B. Wade for an extension of lease of coal area on block IV, Kurow, his client having erected the boundary fenoe and never been paid for the half of his work. — To stand over for consideration until areport Is received from Banger Hugban on Wade's application. Gimmebbubn.— A letter from Mr John Law as to a blook of 1000 or 1200 aores taken from Bun 225e, adjoining block IV, Gimmerburn district, being offered I for sale, and as to boundaries of same, was considered.—Tha chief surveyor was requested to have the area in question surveyed into suitable-sized ?ec» tions, so as to allow the neighbouring property holders to add to their holdings. James Cain, Naseby, wrote asking the board to recommend Government to declare sections 3 and 4, block Vl, Gimmerburn, containiDgabout 400 acres, now portion of a forest reserve, open for application under section 6 of the "Land Act Amendment 1889," for cash, on deferred payments, or on perpetual lease. There was a considerable area of laud reserved for forest purposes in Maniototo, and he did not think that an objection would be made locally to the land being thrown open to settlers. Mr Neil Brown and Mrs Helen Wilson also wrote on the same subject, and asked fora lease of the sections mentioned.—Beferred to chief commissioner to communicate with Government with the objeot of having sections offered for settlement, their being a demand for them. Road Lines.— The Clerk of the Mount Stuart Boad Board submitted for approval lists of roads on which it ia intended to spend money coming to the board from deferred payment and small grazing run lands.— Road lines approved. Tktiot.— Mr W. L. Simpson, on behalf of William M'Loughlin, pastoral lessee of section 10, blook VIII, and section 8, block V, Teviot. asked permission to transfer the latter section to Matthew Rlllot, both sections being included in one license. —Applications granted on the usual terms; rent to ba allocated according to acreage. Blackstonb.— Mr W. L. Simpson, on behalf of Bobert A. Clarke, made application for the grazinp right over sections 2, 3, and 4, block VIII, Blackstone, on condition of keeping down the rabbits thereon. — Application declined ; Governor-in-Coun-cil recommended to offer sections for pastoral license, as sections are auriferous. Dunback.— An application to transfer pastoral HceDEe (for approval) from John Brown to James Kennedy over sections I and 2, block VIII, sections I, 2, and 3, block IX, and section 22, block V, Dunback, was adjourned, the board desiring the applicant to state his reasons for dedring the transfer to take place. Lake County.— The Lake County Council forwarded a list of deferred payment and pastoral leases in the county, with the roads indicated on which the moneys are to be spent.— Boad lines approved. Coal Licknse.— The salesman -wrote bringing under the notice of the board the position of the coal license granted to Thomas Jackson and party, which had never been uplifted, and on which no rent had been paid. jHe had forwarded notices to the licensees, and they had aßked for a further extension of time in which to pay up all arrears. As tha rent was nearly a year in arrear, and aB the party had been working the ground, he suggested that the license be forfeited. — Licensees to be notified that unless rent is paid within one month from date license will be cancelled. Waipori Hundred.— Messrs Prater and BtilHng asked that Mr Bobert Cotton be appointed ranger for the Waipori Hundred under section i, appendix 11. "Land Acb 1885," no wardens having been appointed.—Mr J. M. Fraser appeared on behalf of Cotton ; Mr Hoßking for a man named Pilling, who claimed to have an interest in the matter.—Oonsideratfon waa adjourned for a week, as Mr Hosking asked that the Tuapeha County Council be communicated witlj.
