Betting : sto 1 agst Danbydale, 100 to 14 Amphion, 100 to 12 Martley, 10 to 1 Noble Chieftain, 100 to 8 Bullion and The Gloamin, 100 to 7 Geryas and Dog Rose. At the distance Amphion began to reduce the command of Dog Rose, and simultaneously Noble Chieftain obtained an opening, although in doing so he had to steer to the centre of the course, and then incline toward the stand side. Fast as he finished Noble Chieftain could not reach the two leaders, and a game effort on the part of Amphion having carried him to the shoulders of Dog Rose, he was incapable of farther improvement, and lost the verdict by a neck, three-parts of a length separating second and third. Betting, 4 to 1 on Trayles, who cantered in front until turning out of the straight, when he settled down with a five or six lengths' lead, which he held until half a mile from home. At this point Latania reduced the gap somewhat, but it was only on sufferance, as the jockey had been "wriggling" for some time, and keeping her well at bay to the end Trayles gained an easy verdict by four lengths. In commencing the descent Royal Oak and Master Patrick mended their positions, and were second and third entering the rails from Tissaphernes on the inside, with Mill Stream and Ingram just behind them, At this point Webb was niggling at the favourite, and a little further on the placmgs underwent a complete revolution, as Sav&nt, Royal Oak, and Master Patrick collapsed, and Ingram shot to the bead of affairs. The race at once became a match between the last-named and Tieaaphemes, and with the outsider holding his own well to the end be won rather easily by a length. Time, smin 14aec. Red Thorn and Cuckoo ran in front of Surefoot until a quarter of a mile from home, when he gave them the go-bye and won in a canter by three lengths ; a bad third.
