LAND BOARD.

The weekly meeting of the Land Board was held on Weanesday, and was attended by Messrs J. P. Maitland (chief commissioner), J. W. Thomson, W. Dallas, H. Clark, and J. Duncan.

Waipobi Commonage.— Theclerk Tuapeka County Council, intimated that the council was willing to take over the Waipori Commonage, and to undertake the destruction of rabbits over the area. The arrangement was agreed to, and it was agreed to inform the sheep intpector of it, bo that ha might see that the agreement is carried out.

Deferred Payment Sections.— lt was intimated that section 3. block VII, Lower Hawea, 320 acres, and section 14, block XVI, Blackstone, 142 aerf s, had-, not been sold after being repeatedly offered ab" auction, and for that reason the board was asked to cou6ider the advisability of reducing the upset prices, or to have the sections notified under the Land Act Amendment Act. — It was agreed to have the sectins notified.

Tiger Hill.— The Crown Lands Ranger, Clyde, wrote stating that after inspecting sections 4, 5, 9, 10, aud 15, block V. Tiger Hill, he considered that they were not worth more than 10s per acre.— lt was agreed to allow the matter of dpaling with the sections to stand over in the meantime.

ROAD Lines —The Waitabi, Waihemo, and Bruce County Councils forwarded lists showing on what roads moneys accruing from deferred paymentß, perpetual.lease, and other lands are to ba expended. — The road lines were approved. Wsst Coast.— Mr W. D. Smith, on behalf of a client, applied for 2000 acres near the Cleddon river, West Coast.— lt was decided to recommend the Governor-in-Oouncil to offer the land for pastoral licenses.

Huss. — The following runa having been unsuccessfully offered on the 29th ult., the board reduced the upsets as under :— Bun 36, Lake County, upset £7 10s, reduced to £5; run 335 a, Vincent County, upset £75, reduced to £25 ; run 43 1, Vincent County, upset £15, t educed to £5.

Otepopo.— The manager of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Chrietchurch, on behalf of Levi Gale, applied for a grant of section 62, block VIII, otepopo; or,that the Government would purchase the land from him. -It was agreed to recommend the G -vwnment to issue a UrowD grant to Gale, he having complied sufficiently with the conditions of occupation, taking into account the nature of the land. . Roxbubqh.— The following persons applied to purchase the undermentioned areab in block XVII, Roxburgh: -J. W.,Waighfc, section 2o ;M. M'Mullin, section 21 ; Jabez Burton, section n2; Thos. Andrew, section 23 ; Jas. Millar, section 24.— Mr Pyke was to appear for the applicants, but as he was not in attendance consideration of the applicati >us was postponed. Kokow —Mr R. B. Martin, on behalf of Anna L. Chapma.i, forwarded a plan of 150 acres, which she prop 'sed to select on her run, sof 25, Kurow, under section 203. sub section B, of the act —The matter was considered by the board, and wss afterwards referred to Ranger Hugban for report.— Mr R. B. Martin, on behalf of Tiios M. Dorwani, requested right to graze stock over portion of tho mining reserve situate between sections 9 ai d 16, block X, Kurow, instead of the portion previously appJied for.—Refeired to the Chief Commissioner to arrajipe accordingly,—Mr W. D. Smith, on behalf of the 'lessees of runs 3 and 4 of 23, Kurow. wrote stating that nothing would be done with the laud uulil proper access ia made to it. On behalf of the lessee of ran. 3

of 23. Mr Smith wrote that the run would never pay, there being so much high country, and asked that it be grouped with 4 of 23.— Consideration deferred for a week.

Applications.— The following applications were approved:— For rural land for cash : F. Q. Dalgety, sections 53 to 62, block I, Blackstone. For unsurveyed land for cash : Thomas M'Kenzle, sections 1' and 2, block XIV, Eimu ; also, section 1, block XIII, do ; section 1, block 11, Tautuku ; and sectioan Ito 5, block 111, do, 1o complete purchase: Christopher Huddlestone, section 20, block 111, Lauder. To transfer perpetual lease : L. A. Norman to William Johnston, section 5, blook VI, Gimmerburn. Leaning Book. — The application of William Williams to surrender agricultural leases of sections 12, 68, and 86, block I, Leaning Rock, was referred to the Government, with a recommendation that, under the circumstances, the surrender be accepted ; Crown Ranger Corbett to value improvements. It •was aleo agreed to forfeit William WilHamo' deferred payment sections 27 and 77, block I, Leaning flock, for nonpayment of instalments; Crown Ranger Corbett to value improvements. CAIRN Hill.— John Butler applied for permission to alter a water race three-quarters of a mile in length in the Cairn Hill district. — The board recommended that the land be dealt with by the warden under section 10 of " The Mining Act 1886." PaosPBOTiWG Applications.— The following applications for licenses to prospect ground outside of raining districts were received:— Alexander Bathgate, to prospect at the mouth and the lower portion of the Tokomairiro river; John Cunningham, to prospect over two miles of the foreshore of the Dunedin and Bast Taieri and Otakia Survey districts ; O. T. Paterson, to prospect over two miles of the foreshore at Otakia ; H. D. Reynolds, to prospect over one mile and a-half of the foreshore between Lawyer's Head and section 20, block I, Otago Peninsula. Daniel Steoart applied <>r a lease over 40 acres at Molyneux Mouth. — In the case oE Bathgate's application it was agreed to grant a license for six months to prospect ia the bed of the Tokomairiro river from its mouth to a point opposite the northern boundary of section 8, block XV, Coast district; and in the case of Cunningham, Paterson, and Reynolds licenses were grapted for six months. A lease was granted to Stewart for three years, but it was agreed he could not have the foreshore frontage of sections 1, 2, and 3, block 11, South Molyneux district.

Lake Wanaka,— Messrs Haggitt and Brent, on behalf of Celia J, Bussell and Elijah C. Hedditcu, applied for a renewal of timber license over five acres near Rambling Burn, Lake Wanaka.— lt was agreed to renew the license for five years at a rental of £5 per annum. Waipahi.— Alexander Clark offered to keep quarry reserve, section 5, block XV. Waipahi, dear of rabbits if the board would allow him to graze hia cattle thereon. — Referred to the chief commissioner.
