ATHLETICS.

| H. O, L. Tindall, of the Cambridge University Athletic Club, has been showing fine form at Home recently. On June 15, at Widneßs he won the One Thousand Yards I Soratch Race for the Northern Counties' ' championship in 2min 10 3-sseo on grass — which ia only 3seo worse than W. G. George's best over the distance — and was followed home by J. Kibblewhite, the Spartan Harriers' crack. At Huddersfield a week later, Tindall romped in an easy first in the race for the Northern Counties' Quarter-mile Championship, his time being 51 3 sseo. At Dalton-in-Furness on June 11, the pole jumping contest was between E. L. Stones (the ohampion) ; T. Ray (ex- champion), and J, Watson, a pupil of Ray's. All three cleared lift, but, singularly enough, they all failed at the next peg, lift 3in, and it was arranged to divide the prizes. It is wonderful, the Athletic News thinks, that a little place like Ulveraton should produce three men capable of vaulting over the bar at lift. About a week later Stones competed at the Scottish Championship, and won the. vaulting contest with a performance of lift 4in, which constitutes a record for Scotland, Three Scotch records were lowered at the Scottish Championship meeting on June 15. The vaulting record, referred to above, was one, and the others were the records for the One-mile Trioyole, and the Four-mileß Race, the latter being won by J. M, Williams in 20min 56 1-gsec.
