FATAL ACCIDENT WHILE HUNTING.

Auckland, August 21, Duriug the run of the Pakuranga hounds to-day one of the huntsmen was killed and another dangerously injured. The hounds met at J. Taylor's residence, near Cambridge, and the drag was laid over his farm. The jumps were very trying. Shortly after the start the horse ridden by Mr Paton fell, and his rider was thrown and rendered insensible. Dr Cushney attended, and found that Paton was suffering from concussion of the brain. The injured man, who was taken to bis home at Hautupu, is now in a critical condition. Amongst those who promised to be in at the finish was Mr John Taylor, who was riding well. He raced his horse, however, across a ploughed field, and when the animal came to the fence afe the boundary it was so distressed that it could not rise, but plunged headlong, throwing a somersault and rolling over the rider. Taylor was lifted up unconscious, and was being carried to his brother's house ne&r by when he expired. He was a settler in the district and highly respected.
