DUNEDIN HORSE SALEYARDS.

Weekly Rbpobt. , Wbight, Stephenson, and Co. report as fol- i lows:— The supply for Saturday's sale was a very i meagre one, consisting for the most part of horses i belonging to tha regular town traders and a few of i the commoner class of light horses from the country, j The amount of business transacted was in conse- j quence not great, being confined almost exclusively • to the sale of a few medium draughts at from £12 to i £18 per head. We note inquiries efcill for good ■ draughts suitable for heavy town work and for use- i ful farm horses ; indeed, for these descriptions the 1 supply falls far short of the demand. We quote as ; follows :— Flrefc-elass young heavy draughts (with j trials) at from £25 to £35; medium do, £12 to £18- ( light do, £5 to £10; first class hacks and light bar- t ness horses, £20 to £^30 ; medium do, £7 10s to £15 : ' light and inferior sorts, £1 10 ato £5. j

GRAIN AND SEED REPORT. Messrs Samuel Obb and Co., Stafford street, report for the week ending August 21, as follows : — Wheat.— The market for this important cereal still continues void of animation, no tales beyond actual requirements taking place, and these confined to small lots for prime quality. A fair demand is, however, experienced for fowl feed. We quote prime milling, 3s 7d to 3s fid ; Tuscan, 3s 8d to 3s lOd ; medium to good, 3s 4d to 3s 6d ; inferior and fowls' feed, 2s6dto3s2d. Oats. — The resumption of cable communication with the other side during the week has had the effect of causing a slightrecovery in the market from the relapse experienced last week, and prices have, therefore, advanced a little. Holders are still firm in their demands, so that when present heavy stocks on the other side are somewhat reduced a further improvement may be expected. We quote prime milliDg, 2s Bdto 2s 9d ; heavy bright feed, 2s 7d to 2s 8d ; ordinary, 2s 6d to 2s 7d, sacks extra. Barley.— There is little or no business doing in this ' product, so that we give no quotations which 'would be purely nominal and misleading. Chaff.— The market for this is well supplied. Prime oaten sheaf (well cut) is worth from £3 10s to £4 ; ordinary, £3 to £3 ss. Potatoes.— A good supply of these is coming forward, prices being rather easier. Grass Seed. — Ryegrasß : The season has now opened up fairly, and a good many sales are being made at the enhanced prices of last year, and which are expected to keep good during the remainder of the season. We quote Poverty Bay (machinedressed) 6s to 7s ; local grown (machine-dre3sed) 4a to ss. Cocksfoot : As with ryegrass it is also being sold freely at Jafce quotations— viz., 2Jd to 3fd, according to quality. Clovers : Our supply is now to hand, and we can thoroughly recommend them as their germinating powers are certain, we having tried them in earth.
