UNIVERSITY COUNCIL.

The' University Council met on Tuesday in the Education Office. Present— The Chancellor, Drs Burns aud Hoeken, and Messrs Gray. Russell, Roberts, and Stanford. Applications for the right to prospect on,the Barewood Run for gold were under consideration. The following regulations were adopted : — "1. That the right to prospect on any properties of the university will be granted to any applicant (but the right will not be transferable) on payment of a fee of two guineas. 2. That before any further applications for protection rights for mining purposes are entertained on any land owned by the university, the applicant (a) shall deposit with the registrar a sketch of the locality showing the position of the land applied for ; (6) deposit a deolaratiou setting forth that tho applicant has personally prospected' the actual grant applied for, and also that he has reasonable grounds for believing that gold exists oa same ; (c) that, every application shalj be accompanied by a deposit of £15 ; (d) that each application shall not exceed 30 acres in extent. • ' - lhat in the case of the seven following, applications already granted, viz :— John Cunningham, Allan Scott Orbell, Robert Scott, Harry Hertslett, Henry Orbell, W. G. Mouatt, George W. Pogion— their attention be drawn to the foregoing resolutions, and that they immediately define the area of ground taken up by.tliiuxu.and comply with all regulations.
