Pegasus Tin Fields.
(From Oub Own Correspondent) The tunnels in connection with lode prospecting on Henderson's and Black and Smith* olaims are 6till making good progress, the former being in about 100 ft in hard rook, and the latter 200 ft in soft granite, terminating in gneiss and quartz with wolfram. It is expected that either party may strike the lode any minute. The indications in the last eeem to denote the greatest proximity, although the red granite and felspar now met with in Henderson's are said by some to be equally favourable. The only new alluvial prospecting of any importance since my last has been completed on Smith and Hunter's claim, from which in a face opened on Monday a nice parcel of tin has been cent to Invercargill. The permanent levels for Tucker's water race have been.pegged abeut 110 chains. A few days more will complete to the source, from which abundant supply will be obtainable. The Hall and Lewis syndicate have made good progress with workings, buildings having been erected and site for large dam having been cleared. Three prospecting parties from here went over some new ground near Doughboy Bay last week on the search for both tin and gold. They, however, from what I can learn, did not meet with any success. Permanent work on Black and Scully's alluvial will be commenced about the middle of October, when they expect to have everything in readiness to start. It is to be hoped that the Government will see that the money voted for roadmaking here is legitimately expended, and that it does not go to subsidise private tramway companies, efforts having been made in that direction.
