HUNTING.

OTAOO HOUNDS,

The third meet of the season took place on Saturday at Wakari, on the property of Mt Asquith, where a hearty welcome was afforded the members of the Hunt by that {gentleman. Among the numerous horsemen, assembling from various quarters, were: Mr Hugh Gouriey, sen. on Robin Hood, Mr Driver on Salesman, Mr Sidey on Clutha Maid, Mr S. Gouriey on Billy, Mr Hart on Turk, Mr H. Goodman on Blizzard, Mr T. Bowie on Black Jack, Mr E. M'Ewen on Timaru, Mr W. M'Ewen on Wild Boy, Mr Leadham on Cocky, Mr T. Randall on Eclipse. Mr Poole's mount' on this occasion was Cuddy, and the whip bestrSde Fotens; Mrs Myers was on Bugler. Among the ladies who were onlookers, were Mrs Walcott, «on a bay, and the Misses Hutton and two other ladies, well mounted. Not much time was wasted before the dragsman was despatched on his mission, starting at Waldie'a slaughter yards in the direction of the Convent, through Mrs Murphy's land ; the first obstacle— a double of two stone walls across a narrow road — was '.well taken by the field. Three or four fences, mostly post and rails, and the pack giving tongue melodiously led the field round a farm house across the road again into jMr Asquith's grounds. The horses all jumped well, and the lady holding a good position near the hounds. A post-and-rail crossing a small plantation was then well taken by the leaders, consisting of Black Jack, Eclipse, Billy,, Salesman, and Timaru, but Mr Sidey's mount, Clutha Maid, unfortunately overjumped herself, giving her rider a" severe fall and preventing him from taking any further part in the chase. Two riiore roads were crossed, each having a double, and the run finished near the waterworks. After sufficient breathing time had been allowed another run took place over the same ground in a homeward direction, which waa got over without any particular incident, with the exception that Black Jack came to grief over a stone wall, fortunately without any injury to his rider, Mr, Bowie. The company then dispersed, having enjoyed a very good afternoon's! sport— thanks to the landowners in the district. I believe the next meet will be held at Mosgiel.
