BBPOKTS. Mr B. Hay, county engineer, forwardedfthejfollowlng report »— "Tenders have been Invited for the works authorised at last meeting, and will be laid before your oounoil at the ordinary monthly meeting. " Henley Drainage.— Tonders were received by me for scouring drains, but were too high, and I Imve since let the work to different parties at a reduced rate, although at a price that will give the men fair wages. " West Taieri Bridge.— This work is satisfactorily iinlihed, and has been open for traffic for the last fortnight. > ' ; " Thomson's Bridge.— l have examined this bridge, and found that four of the piles and some of the j sheeting are entirely decayed, and the beams partly J so on the faces in contact with the planking. I ' would suggest that in order to save the cost of a new bridge, that the piles be renewed, and the beams be adzed down 41n, tarred, and a 4ln piece of ironbark bolted thereto, and the planking replaced. Some of the sheeting in the oulverts near Wylie's crossing win be uMlined, and the bridge put into suoh order that it will last for the next five or six years for an ex; enditure of, say, £50 or £60. I have, with your sanction, obtained four of the totara beams from the Wesf. Taieri bridge for piles, at a cost of £3. " Culverts on the Duke's and Gladfield roads.— These are three in number— one 6by 4 and two 4by 4, each 14ft long, and can be built as box culverts at a co? t of £25. " Daplyn's Bridge (Kaikorai stream).— The stream has scoured out the bed and also underneath the stone abutments. The bridge is 12ft in span, and is said to be too small to take the waten . In the event of building a new structure one abutment only could be utilised, all the rest requiring renewal ; cost, £60. If repaired, putting in a concrete invert and underpinning the abutment, about £8 would suffice, " Boad through Boyd's run.— lt will be necessary, if the works proposed by the council arc to be laid off on a permanent 'main road/ 4 that *a' survey of the whole Hoe through the run should be made j and I do not think the oouuoll have any Intention of doing the work, it being one fairly within the soope of the. (frvernment Survey department. -—'-
