Mr Henry Matthews, who is now at Queecstown, has been most successful in securing a fine collection of alpine plants from the mountains of Wakafcipii for the exhibition. We understand the Musical Committee have decided to recommend the commissioners to appoint Mr A. J. Towsey to the position of conductor of the exhibition choir. The Wellington Evening Post, in a spirited reply to the article in the Sydney Daily Telegraph, says:— "At Dunedin there will be a thorough representation of the industries and products of this colony, and probably from what will there be gathered together New South | Wales buyers vrould be almost certain to glean j much valuable information, and perhaps be able to discover still new lines in which New Zealand might be able to minister to their requirements. On the other hand, a good display of the arts, manufactures, and natural products of New South Wales, which can only be secured if the Government of that colony officially assists, might, and probably would, show us New Zealanders that we can obtain from New South Wales many desirable articles which we cannot produce ourselves, nor obtain so conveniently from any other place. A thorough representation of New South Wales' produots at Dunedin could scarcely fail to prove highly advantageous to both colonies. . . . Possibly it might open the eyes of our New South Wales brethren to the faot that coal is not the only export for which a New Zealand market might possibly be found." At the meeting of Vincent County Council the chairman' said he intended to place himself in communication With the mayors of Cromwell and Alexandra, with the view of these bodies joining the council in one general committee for the New Zealand Exhibition ; and he would suggest that each councillor Bhould call meetiugs in his respective riding to elect local committees to act in unison with the general committee in getting together samples of all products, so that the county should be fairly represented. It was understood councillors would do as requested. LOCAL COMMITTEE FOR CLUTHA. At the meeting of the Clutha County Council on Friday the circular from the president of the New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition asking the council in conjunction with' the mayor of Balclutha to form a local committee was read and considered. Cr Scott spoke strongly in favonr of a committee being appointed to look after the interests of the Clutha district, which he considered the premier district in the country. Other districts had taken active steps in the matter, and it would be a strange thing if the Clutha did not do anything. They had plenty of exhibits in the shape of grain, root crops, and minerals. He moved that the chairman and Crs Mackenzie and Christie be appointed a committee to conf * r with the mayor of Balclutha in the representation of the district at the forthcoming exhibition. Cr Mackenzie demurred to hia name being in the committee, and remarked he considered ' when the Government had voted £10,000 towards the undertaking, the country dis- ! tricta would contribute pretty well towards the exhibition, which would mostly benefit the I people of Dunedin. The motion lapsed for want of a seconder. __ Cr Christie said he would second the motion j if Cr Scott would put in his own name m place of Cr Mackenzie's. - Cr Scott agreed to this and Cr Christie seconded the motion which was carried nem.c&n. LOCAL COMMITTEE FOB MANIOTOTO. I At a public meeting held at Naseby on Friday evening, presided over by the mayor (Mr Hjorring), we learn from the Mount Ida Chronicle , that the following resolution; pro^ , posed by Mr William Burnett, county chairman, and seconded by Mr Walter Inder, was. unanimously carried :^-(l) "That this -meeting is of opinion tnat great good will, result from the district of Maniototo being represented at the forthcoming exhibition ; feat the ogßOrtuuity
