NOTES BY JACK.
There was a fair muster on the Caledonian green on Saturday afternoon, where a match Senior Vice-president v. Junior Vice-president was played, resulting in a win for the Junior side by 12 points. The day was beautifully fine and the green in capital order. The .following were the players :— Junior Vioe-pbesident. Q- Chapman, T Chapman, J Davidson, C F Gfreenslade (s) ... ... ... ... 20 S Oronin, J M'Gregor, Q- Walker, J Ogg <s) „. 28 Total ... ... ... ... 48 Senior Vice-pbhsh>ent. E Marks, W Wardrop,E Hogg, J Wedderspoon(s) 21 A Black, TS Dodds, H Beverstock, J Blaney (a) 15 Total ... ... ... ... 36 Next Saturday a match between the Milton and Caledonian Clubs will be played on the green of the latter. The Napier Bowling. Club played a scratch match on Saturday, March 23, when sides were chosen by Messrs Guy and Holt. The match proved a most uneven one all. through, as although in No. 1 rink Holt's men defeated their opponents by 16 points, they still lost the game eventually by 11 points, owing to their colleagues in No. 2 rink being badly beaten by those I opposed to them. In No. 1 rink Messrs Morrison, Hodgson, Balfour, and Holt (skip) scored 34 ' against 18 made by Messrs Tuke, J. Dinwiddie, Revans, and Guy (skip)!; whilst in No. 2 rink Messrs P. Dinwiddie, Cook, Yates, and Gilberd (skip) made 42 against 15 scored by Messrs Sweetapple, Ashton, Luxford, and Williams (skip). The match therefore resulted in Guy's team winning by 60 points to 49, made by Holt's side. Mr W. F. Downey, an enthusiastic bowler, and who for a long time acted as hon. secretary to the New Plymouth Bowling Club, has been entertained by his numerous friends prior to his leaving New Plymouth for Wanganui. During the entertainment he was presented with a purpe of sovereigns as a substantial token of the esteem in which he is held. The Wanganui bowlers will no doubt give Mr Downes a right hearty welcome. An interesting match, Australia v. the World, is being arranged by the secretaries of clubs belonging to the Victorian Bowling Association. Each club will nominate eight players, four to be Australian natives, and four bom in other parts of the world. From the number sent in 32 will be chosen by each side. On Saturday, March 16, the Rosehill and Glebe Clubs played a friendly game at Parramatta, and after a most enjoyable two and a-half hours it resulted in a win for the Glebe Club by 38 points. An inter-club match of four rinks was played | between the Sydney City and Balmain Bowling Clubs on the Union recreation grounds at Strath field. The game lasted two and a-half hours, and resulted in a win in favoar of the City Club by two points. An inter- club match between the Union Recreation Clab and the St. Leonards Bowling Club, Sydney, was played on the latter's green on a recent Saturday. The game was close, the U. R. C. eventually winning by seven points.
