The usual monthly meeting of the board was held on Friday, February 1. There were present: The Chief Commissioner (Mr J. Spence), and Messrs A. Kinross, Cowau, and T. Dcunistou. A letter was received from the Utider-sccretary for Lands notifying that Cuthberfc Cowan had been reappointed a member of the board. A. Tapper appeared before the board protesting against their notion in declaring tho right to cut timber ort sections in Seaward Bubh, granted to him, as having lapsed owing tp his not. having deposited the necessary fee.— The board did not see any reason to alter its previous decision. The Ckrk of the South Invercargill Town Council submitted a schedule of works ou which it was proposed to expend the deferred payment thirds.— Approved, John Lee, of Dacre, wrote asking the board not to compel him to build on his deferred payment section at Dacre.— lt was decided to grant applicant 13 months' exemption from residence. It was decided to recommend the Government to accept the surrender of ltun 441, occupied by John McQuarrie, it being impossible for him to get to the land, which is situated in Seaward Bush. George Swain and party applied for permission to construct a tramway at Port Pegasus.— Granted, subject to survey being made by an authorised surveyor, the rental to be £1 per year, and the lease to be for seven years. Messrs Swain, Thomas, Murdoch, and party wrote applying for permission to erect a jetty at the easfc side of the north arm of Port Pegasus.— Permission graated, so far as the board had jurisdiction, G Swain and party applied for permission to construct a tail race (seven heads) at M'Arthur's creek, Port Pegasus.— Granted, subject to a rough survey being made, showing the true position of tho race. With regard to a number of other applications made for races at Pegasus district, the board agreed to consider them at the next meeting, by which time the position of the creeks and other necessary information would be obtained. A. M'Callum applied to purchase section 4, block 111, in the Oteramika Hundred, containing 100 acres. — Sec* ion to be declared open for stle at a month's notice. The Clerk of theKnapdale Road Board wrote giving descriptions of the sections upon which it was proposed to expend the deferred payment and perpetual lease moneys.— Description in lieu of pans approved and expenditure sanctioned. A letter -was received from A. R. Campbell, Waikawa, ascpting the position of ranger for tho Waikawa Hundred. C. Robinson applied to lease for one yesr the gravel reserve to the north of se'-tion 1, block IV, Oteramika Hundred. It was decided that tho hoard should allow applicant to remove crop on payment of JBI, after which ho would require to acquice alegal title or vacate the land. A. Perrin wrote Btating that he would givo £2 per annum for section 9, containing 10 «cres.— Granted. William Somer wroto stating that he was desirous of taking up an uoeerv eyed Bection containing five acres in the Woodend township on the deferrtdpayment and perpetua'.-leasfl systems —Applicant to ba recommended to take up tho scctoins already surveyed. In connection with the complaint of Thomas Lee, Dacre, against the occupiers of deferred-payment land at Dacre, for not complying with the conditions of their licenses, the ranger recommended that restrictions should be put on the number of cattle that* each settler should be allowed to run. It was decided to inform Thomas Lee that he had no right to erect a fence where he has, and that the grazing right would be withdrawn if they cannot agree amongst themselves as to the number of cattle to be depastured by each settler.
