MISCELLANEOUS,

An Auckland telegram states that the oid Caledonian Gold Mining Company shareholders held their aunual meeting yesterday. The directors reported that the year's operations had not been so successful as had been hoped, but shareholders had no need to be discouraged. Mr J. Brown was re-elected director. Mr J. M. Lennox, who presided, said a special meeting would bo held to consider the advisability of re-forming the company. The West Coast correspondent of the Lytfcelton Timea writes : — " Mr Brooke-Smith has vow removed bis prospeefciug plant from the Threemile Beach to the Mikonui, which ho will prospect in the fcntue manner as he did the firslnamed. Ho expresses himself highly pleased with the result of the tests he applied to the Tfcree-mile, and calculates there is gold there to the" value of £100,000. The Okarito Gold Dredging Company is, I am told, going into liquidation. The non-success of the drsdging plant ha? proved to them that other plant will bo necessary, and as they aro handicapped with an undertaking to give Mr Brooke-Smith a large interest in the profits, they think ifc better, as the dredge ha supplied did nob answer thfcir expeclaf ions, to wind up and re-form with a clean sheet. Of course this will involve rather strained relations between the company and the gentleman referred to.

Messrs Kloogb, M'llwrick, and party's dredge was brought down the Clutha river last week to the mouth of the Lowburn creek. A flying prospect; was made on the way down, but nothing good enough was got to induce working. Where the dredge is stationed at present, wages are being obtained, but nothing aaore. So far, experience has taught that dredging, by th-i present system, both en fcheClathaand Kawarau rivet-, io (>ol reaiui-fuitivo.— Cruimve'l Argus. At the next meeting here 1 shall immediately reeign. Mr Begg : I shall be glad to give my services towards the liquidation of the company, but so confident am I that the thing is going to be muddled that I don't want my name in any shape or form to be held responsible for it. I shall wash nay hands of it, and let those who think they can manage it come in and see if they can do better. The Chairman said that ib would soon be his duty to inform Mr Herbert that the negotiations with him were at an end. The meeting then terminated.
