FOOTBALL.
The following par from "The Christian Million " of August 2 last will be read with interest in connection with the Native team of footballers' visit to the Home country :— ln view of the probable event (according to the St. James' Gazette) of the temperance movement becoming the great party cry at the next general election, it ia interesting to learn that a team of abstaining football players will visit this country during the coming season, to test their strength and skill with famous Rugby clubs like the Richmond, Blackheath, Bradford, London, Scottish, and Cambridge Universities. During their visit they will be bound by a contract with their conductor not to take strong drink under any circumstances. A gentleman in New Zealand begs the press, through Mr John Hilton, of the United Kingdom Alliance, to ask the English people not to place any temptation to "drink before them. As it is universally admitted that alcohol makes but a poor show in all feats of Bfcrength and physical endurance, some of our Rugby champions must look to their laurels."
