"^ The match against Kent was concluded to-day. The county team in their second innings made only 80, thus being in a -minority of 81. Turner secured six wickets for 28, and Ferris four for 42. The teanK to represent England against the Australians at Kennington Oval on Monday will be : — W. G. Grace (Gloucester), W. ft?. Read (Surrey), Shuter (Surrey), Lohmann (Surrey), Peel (Yorkshire), Briggß (Lanca- | shire), Abel (Surrey), Barnes' (Nottingham), I Wood (Surrey), Ulyett (Yorkshire), and Sugg Lancashire); emergency, Gunn (Nottingham). . . August 9. The Australian Eleven commenced a match at Clifton to'^Jay against an eleven representing the County of Gloucester. The -latter went in "first, and scored 214 in their first innings, Townsend (with 66) being the principal scorer for the county team. Lyons secured two wickets for 73 runs, Ferris' two for 58, Trott two for 48, Worrall two for 32, and Boyle one for 0. Turner did not play. At the close of the day's play the Australians had lost six wickets for 83, ■ Trotb (not out with 48) being principal scorer. Notwithstanding that the day was overcast and some fell during the afternoon, there was a large attendance of spectators. ■ . ' August 10. The/Australians made 143 in their first inning's. M'Donnell 42. T^he Gloucestershire Eleven, who had lost three Wickets for 30, resumed their innings and made a capital stand against the Australian bowling. Townsend and Eadcliffe completely collared the bowling and scored 92 and 99 respectively. The innings closed for 312, leaving the Australians 384 to get to win. Ferris took four wickets for 64, Lyons four for 96, Boyle one for 26, Edwards one for 23. The weather throughout the match has been very fine and greatly in favour of the batsmen. .August 11. * The Australians in their second innings only scored 126. Gloucester thus won by 257 runs. The wicket was much worn. M'Donnell (38) and Trott (28) were the highest scorers.
