RACING IN NEW ZEALAND.

ASHBURTON COUNTY HUNT CLUB STEEPLECHASES. (AshbUrton Mail.) The annual Steeplechase meeting in connection with the Ashburtou County Hunt Club was held on Thursday, the Bth instant. The weather was fine, but grew somewhat cold as the afternoon wore on, and juc-t before the last race was run a heavy fog settled down on the course. The attendance of the public was moderate. Subjoiued are results :— HANDICAP HURDLE RACE, Of 15sovs i second horse 3sovs from the stake. At the railway bend Lord Burleigh improved his position and went up to Nero, and at the top of the course had run into second place. Morok, however, maintained the lead with ease, aud won with the greatest oomfort by about a dossen lengths from Lord Burleigh, Nero several lengths away third. Finally Captain and Squib led over the water jump and out of the course. Coming back on to the course again, Nero bad assumed a strong command, followed by Blackbird, Captain, and Squib. From this stage Nero had the race all his own way, and won with the greatest ease by any number of lengths. Squib a bad third. Dividend, £5 15s. SELLING HACK RACE, PflOßOva. No weight. under 9.0.
