Temporary Offices': Cheviot street, Roxburgh. The Roxburgh Gold Mines are situated on the East bank of the Clutha river, opposite the Township of Roxburgh. They comprise Seven Working Claims, held by separate mining parties ; and it is now proposed to amalgamate these tor their more economical and efficient working. These mines are alluvial, the terraces being composed of gravel and sand, deposited in remote ages by aqueous action, as explaiued in the report of Pr»essor Ulricli, F.G.S., in ".Geological Explorations," 1883, besides the reports of H. A. Gerdon, Esq., the Government Inspecting Mining Engineer, and W. L. Simpson, Esq., late Warden of the Otago Goldfields, which are attached to the Prospectus, and are of a very favourable nature. The properties have been reported upon by Thos. Hedley, Esq., Hydraulic Mining Engineer, a highly qualified expert in sluicing from Mitta-Mitta, in the Queen's District, Victoria, who, in his report, says after recommending certain works to be undertaken by the Company : — " To carry out the required works will [practically cost £10,000. " I estimate that this plan will be capable of dealing with 1,000,003 cubic yards per yeat, at a cost o£ £8000. " I estimate that the yield will be from 6d to 8d per yard, and equal to £30,000 value per annum — affording an annual profit of at least £20,000. " I have every coniidencein the payable na the ground, and the area is so extensive that years' working under the most favourable circu stances will not exhaust it. " The amount of money required to openfche mine in a complete manner is unusually small when compared with the vastness of the venture. " I am confident if the ground be properly opened up— water scheme extended so as to command ab the high level all the available water, and the whole directed efficiently— the returns will exceed my estimate, and I have no hesitation iv recommending the venture with every confidence." Beside the water races which have been coni Btructed at great cost by the original owners, there are several " dams " on the ground for water Btorage, j and a large quantity of mining plant, valued at i £2500, all being included in the purchasing price. These are in good working order, and available for. immediate operation; indeed, they are now lnu.se and all the new plant required is hydraulic piping and more effective gold-saving appliances. The price asked for the whole of these, mines is £35,000 in cash and paid-up shares. By the substitution of " hydraulic " sluicing for " Burface " sluicing, the output can easily be, quintupled, and improved gold-saving applianoes will certainly double the proportionate yield. Under such conditions the mines would, it 3s estimated, produce from eOQOoz to 7000oz per annum for the next 150 years at least. It is worthy of note that any amount of water can bo obtained from the Teviofc river from auy desired elevation up to 2580 ft. Prospectus and forms of application for shares may be obtained at the Offices of the Brokers oc B.mkers of the Company. The share list will bo positively clesed on tiie 31nfc day of August. j3 au GRASS SEEDS. CLOVER SEEDS. TURNIP SEEDS. SAMUEL ORR & CO., STAFFORD STREET, i DCNEDIN, ! WOOL, GRAIN, & PRODUCE BROKERS.
