NOVELL'S FLAT.

August 13.— The weather has been very wet and broken of late, and all outdoor work has been stopped. The ground has been quite unfit for ploughing ; but as the beginning of the winter was good there is a large area turned over ready for sowing. If the weather does not take up soon, however, a late harvest may be expected. Bunny.— The rabbitß have had a lively time of it, the late poisoning having nearly cleared them all out, and I am sure tnat in a very short time there will not be a rabbit to be seen. Concert.— A Blue Ribbon concert was held in the schoolhouse on the 3rd inst. There was a moderate attendance. Mr Bowie, the president of the society, occupied the chair. The programme was a long and varied one, consisting of songs, readings, recitations, and dialogues. The songs comprised :— " Craigielea." by Mr Gibb ; " Lilly Dale," by Mis» Robsonj "The minute gun at sea" (duet), Miss A. M'C-iw and Mr Maxwell, and "Down the barn, Davie " as an encore ; " The ship that never returned," Mr Cameron; "Jamie and Jeani," and "Love at homo" (duetß), by Miss Robcon and Mr Currie ; " Jack's request," Misb A. M'Caw ; and "In the cottage by the sea," Mr Hanson. The choir also sang a number of pieces, and twodialogues wereacted in capital 6tyle. The following ladies and geutiemen conti United readings and recitations :— Misses Bowie and Donall, and Messrs Dunlop, M'Donald, and Donall.
