LAND BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the Land Board was held on Wednesday. Present— the Chief Commissioner (Mr J. P. Maitland), Messrs W. Dallas, and H. Clark. Molynkux.— John Horsburgh wrote asking that when section 11, block XXXVII, Molyneux, is offered for sale, it should be weighted with valuation for improvements amounting Lo £35 in his favour. — Referred to Ranger Hugban to report. Maniototo.— John Forrester asked that when section 22, block 11, Maniototo, is notified under the act, that lie should be allowed valuation for improvements. — Referred to the chief surveyor. The Wardeu, in reporting on applications by Messrs Devinney, Johnston, and Cutherwood for grazing right over water reserve section 11, and the t .liing reserve adjoining in block X, Maniototo, recommended that Cutherwood should obtain the graziug right over that portion of section 15 east of the road, and Devinney over the remainder of the section and the tail race. — Referred to uhe chief commissioner to arrange. Gimmerburn.— John Inglis asked that his license for a coalmining area situate south-east of section 3, block I, Gimmerburn, be issued in the name of James M'Knight, applicant having disposed of his right.— Agreed to. Otakia. — Thomas Little asked that section 1 of 29, block V, Otakia. be notified under the Amendment Act. — Consideration adjourned. Kapiti. — Hunger Hughan reporting on Messrs Fraser and Stilhng's application for a right of ingiass to seotion 24, block VI, Kapiti towuship, through the water reserve, recommended that the ror.d be recorded along the back of sections 20 and 21.— Referred to the chief surveyor for road to be recorded. rAiEHi.— Plans of road lines on which the Taieri County Council propose to expend £338 11s 3d ascruing from deferred-payment lands and perpetual le ses, were approved. Applications. — The following applications were granted :— For small farm allotment on deferred payment Margaret M'Millan, sections 1 to 12 and 14 to 20, block LIII, Molyneux town. To extend term of deferred-payment license under section 20 of the Land Act Ameudment Act, W. J. Mitchell, section 29, block IV, M>.unt Hyde, For rural lands on perpetual lease, James Hewitt, section 22, block VI, Wankleburn ; D. S. Hanger, section 10, block I, Tiger Hill ; £. M'Atamney, sections 9 and 10, block Xv'l, Blackstone. For cancellation of mineral (co-Dleises-John Pryde, section 9, block I, Bannockburn; Gold Dredging Company, sections 2, 3, and 6, block IX, Leaning Rock. To purchase rural lands ifor cash, J, H. Wileon and Adam A. Scott, sections 5 and 6, block V, Clarendon. To transfer small grazing runs— Alexander M'Kinven to Rhoda A. Williamson (wife of Donald ,'Williamson), section 9, block VIII, Kuriwao|; Robert M'KinvenSSo Donald Williamson, sections 10 and;ll, block VIII, Kuriwao. The application of Peter Leitch for a perpetual lease over section 13, block V, Otakia, was adjourned for a week. Hummock.— lt was decided to set apart sections 1 (557 acres), 2 (279 acres), 3 (216 acres), i (860 acres), and 5 (212 acres), block 11, Hummock, as a small grazing run. Pebpetual Lessees ix Arrears. — It was intimated that the following perpetual lessees owned arrears ranging from £10 to £125 :— John Rusßell (Glenkenich). John M'Oarthy (Lower Hawea), Jas. M'Atamney (Poolburn), A. J.M 4 Leod,JohuMarshall, W. R. Martin, and W. Marshall (Mount Hyde), Hugh O'Donuell(Strath-Taieri),DavidHaugh(Crookston), Timothy Whelan (Lower Wanaka), James Samuel (Maaiototo), William Marshall (Blackstone), G. W. Grant (Sutton), James Philips and George Orr (Kurow). Four of these lessees — viz., John Russell, W. R. Martin, A. J. M'Leod. and William Marshall (Mount Hyde), appeared before the board, and explained their position. The three former were granted time, six months, one month, and two months respectively. The license of Marshall, who did not ask for time, was declared forfeited. Several of the other lessees in arrear wrote to the board, and in the following cases consideration was adjourned: — M'Carthy, M'Atamney, Jno Marshall, O'Donnell, Haugh, Whelan, Samuel. Philips, and Orr. In the case of William Marshall (Bhickstone), the lessee having ppid a portion of the arrears the balance was allowed to stand over. The license of George Grant was declared forfeited. Mount Hyde.— Thomas Thomson, holder of de-ferred-payment section 15, block IV, Mount Hyde, interviewed the board, asking permission to giveup' the section all but 2o acres in clearance of £25 interest due, on condition of getting a Crown grant for the remaining 20 acres— Applicant was directed to put his request in writing, the hoard not holding out any hope that it could be granted. j

A man named Patterson h*s been arrested for robbing his mate, named Coomer, at Lumsden. The sum stolen was £40, in £10 notes. Constable Leece found Patterson endeavouring to change a £10 note at Mataura, and on searching his swag found other three. Accused was remanded.
