The Union Steam Ship Company have received cable advice that the Tekapo left Calcutta on the Ist inst. for Dunedin. The ship Dunedin, from Oamaru, arrived in London on July 18, after a smart run of 83 days. Her cargo of 11,000 carcasses of mutton was in good order. The barque Bass Rock took the following cargo from this port:— l4oo sacks wheat, 268 bales wool and skins, 346 casks tMlow, and 63 drums oil. The barque May Queen, which went ashore in Lyttelton harbour on January 26 and after hanging upon a rook for several months slid off into deep water, still occupies the position she took after leaving the rock. Mr Parker, who purchased the wreck, has called for tenders for raising the vessel. He has every hope of eventually raising the barque, and thinks that when onue theoperationsarecommenced little difficulty will be met with. Captain Farquhar, of the s s. Clansman, brings news of an interesting message from the sea, which was recently found by a naliTeon the beach near Parengarenga, and forwarded to Mr R. M. Coy!es,of Mongonui. It consisted of a bottle wilh a slip of paper enclosed, bearing the following words :— " Ship Miiwana, 78 days from London, 150 tons gunpowder on board, bound for Sydney. August 26, 1886.— Captain Lewis." The bottle was encrusted with barnacles.— Auckland Herald. During the week ending August 5 10 vessels of a total of 3993 tons register arrived at tho Dunedin wharves, and 11 vessels, representing 4788 tons egister, left for other ports.
