Before reaching the distance Scottish King tried to close with Selby and Merry Andrew, but the effort was only sustained for a few strides, as the last-named pair shook him off directly afterwards, and drew clear away, Selby holding the lead to the half-distance, where Merry Andrew made his effort, and though Selby answered gamely enough to Luke's calls, he waa always held safe by Merry Andrew, who won a little cleverly by a neck ; Scottish King was a bad third, two lengths away, and about six lengths in front of Tissaphernes, who finished fourth.
