Mr Skene reports under date May 22 :—: — Winter farm hands are moving more freely, but town and town work is in a very bad way yet. The wail of the unemployed is still heard in our midst. It it were not for rabbiting we would be in a pretty fix. I have lately placed : 4 nloughmeu at 153,175, and 20s ; 8 milkers, lads and boys, at Bs, 10s, 12s, and 15s; 2 grooms and milkers at 15s and 20s ; co'iples at £65 and £70 ; squads of rabbiters at 2£d per skin ; bushmen at 4s per cord.
