MACRAE'S FLAT.
May, 21.—During the past six weeks we have enjoyed excellent weather, and as a consequence ploughing is well forward and threshing was finished last week. The yield is, I-understand, about the usual average. As an instance I may mention that a field of wheat belonging to Mr P. Gifford turned out upwards of 33 bushels jper acre. Thisjs considered satisfactory, as the field has been under cultivation for the past 13 years. Tea Meeting.—A social gathering in connection with the Rev. Mr Todd's Bible Class was held here on Friday evening. The night was fine and clear and tempted the young people out. Fully 70 friends, old and young, responded to the invitation to discuss a friendly cup of tea and pass a pleasant evening together The walls of the schoolhouse were tastefully decorated with flowers and evergreens, while the table was embellished with flowers provided by the Bible Class. After the inner man had been satisfied Mr Todd took the chair aud welcomed all in a few words in which he took advantage of pointing out the advantage of such Social meetings among members of the same church. He intimated that one object of the present gathering was to discover and encourage any local talent that existed among them. This was fairly well achieved, as almost all the songs, &c, were coutributed by the young people themselves. One or two strangers kindly lent their assistance also in this way, and added greatly to the enjoyment of the evening. Before parting a hearty vote of thanks was passed to the ladies and others who had provided the eatables and to all who had helped to make the evening pass pleasantly. It may be mentioned that it is just two years since our pastor settled amongst us, aud therefore this was a very fitting way of celebrating the event. During that time his work has been highly appreciated, as is evident by the large congregations which assemble at his fortnightly services. The Rev. Mr Clark, of Palmerstou, preached the anuiversury services on Sabbath lasb to a large and atteutivo congregation.
