Dunedin Chess and Draughts Club.
There was a large gathering of players in the club room, Coffee Palace, on Saturday night, and a number of players volunteered their services for tho annual draughts match between the town and country players, which comes off in the club "room on the Queen's Birthday. As ir, is fully expected that this will be the largest match that has ever taken place % here those who would like to play on behalf of the town team would greatly facilitate matters by forwarding their names to Mr J. P. Bell, president ; Mr Henry Howes, treasurer ; or MrJDavid E. Hay. secretary of the club. The Match Committee would like to have 50 names to elect from, as the country players are expected to come in full force this year, »nd it is desirabln tUev should all find opponents. Those who intend to take part in the match, whether members of the club or not, are invited to meet in the club room for practice on Tuesday and Saturday nights. The contest is being looked forward to with much interest. Secretaries of country clubs will please forward to Mr D. R. Hay, at as early a date as possible, the names of the probable players of tbeir respective clubs. Players who wish to tako part in the match, and who reside in districts where no club exists should lose no time Iv forwarding their names to Mr Hay.
