COURSING.

OAMAEU COURSING CLUB; J The opening meeting of the newly-formed Oamaru Coursing Club was (says the North Otago Times) held on Thursday on Mr John M'Lean's estate on the plain. The weather was fine till about 4 p.m., when a heavy fog set in. Hares were fairly numerous. There was a large attendance of those who take an interest in coursing, as well as of settlers on the .plain. The day was an enjoyable one to all who took part, and for this the club is indebted to Mr M'Lean, who had made every arrangement for the coursing taking place over his paddocks. The arrangements for carrying out the programme were properly, adhered to, and as all the positions in the club are honorary, the officers deserve credit .for the manner in which they carried out their duties. Mr Sowell acted as judge, and Mr A. Dalgleish as slipper. In the first round Jack of the Green led Black Bell and turned. Black Bell got in and won the course. Haymarket led Plpughboy . lip and turned, Ploughboy wrenched and stumbled, and Haymarket got in again for another turn. The hare was driven through the fence and killed.' Lassie had all the, best of a short course, killing, without giving Day Dawn a chance. Flora won the course with, Gipsy Queen from the start, killing cleverly. Cheviot Lass led .off an awkward slip, but The Lad got ,in, turned, bis hare twice, wrenched and killed. , , , Spite led Wallace 11, and a give-and-take course ensued, Spite winning by the kill. Glowworm led, up quickly, turned, wrenched, and killed cleverly, beating Brigham , Young. Mark led Spot, and picked up the hare and won. Dark Rustic led off a long slip, turned twice, but Morningside getting in lasted longer and won. The Miller led Luna off a long slip, turned, and beat her almost pointless. Ysobel led Mabel, and after an exchange, Mabel outpaced Ysobel anu\won the course. Sunset led Sam by three lengths, and atter two exchanges Sunset took possession and kept it to the finish. Newmarket led off a short slip, turned his hare, and killed. For the last course of the first round Maid of the Mill and Maori Maid were brought together. The former led up, and kept possession of the hare nearly all through a iongish course. In the second round Haymarket beat Black Bell rather easily. Lassie led The Lad to the hare, turned to the latter, passed again, and killed. Spite and Flora ran up on pretty even terms, and a good give-and-take course followed, the black always having a little the beat of it, and winning with a kill. Mark, led Glowworm and turned, letting in the, latter, but again taking possession had his course won easily, when the hare got away through the fence. .Morningside led The Miller and turned, letting in the latter, and a long course ensued, Morningside getting in again, and throughout having slightly the best of it, winning at the finish with something to spare. Sunset won a short course with a kill. Newmarket was fastest away from a long slip and turned the hare, still keeping possession. He turned again, and Maid, of \ the Mill rushed in and killed, thus spoiling whatever chance she had. Haymarket and 'Lassie travelled to the hare on pretty even terms, but the slut was the cleverer of the two, and took possession, and throughout a long course had much the best of it. Mark was seen through a heavy fog which had set in to have the best of his course with Spite. Sunset had the best of her course with Morningside at the start, but the blue dog got in, and had the best of the course at the finish, winning with a good deal to spare. Newmarket ran a bye, and this finished the third round. It was decided to run off the remaining three courses next day, the heavy fog preventing further coursing. FIRST BOUND.
