The betting at the post was : — 5 to 2 agst Acme, 4 to 1 The Australian Peer and The Nan, 5 to 1 Carlyon, 6 to 1 Ben Bolt, 7 to 1 Oakleigh, 12,t0 1 The Queen and Algerian. A good start was effected. Touchstone, accompanied by The Nun, was the first to show in front, and they led the field until entering the straight the first time round, when the others closed up. At the six furlong post The Queen rushed to the front, the others being in a cluster except Carlyon, who was trailing off last. At the home turn The Queen fell away beaten, and left Touchstone again at the head of affairs, with Bon Bolt, Algerian, Australian Peer, and Acme handy. When fairly in the straight, Australian Peer drew out from the rack, and challenging the leaders, soon wrested the lead and won easily by three lengths. "Algerian, Acme, and Ben Bolt alio passed Touchstone and had a splendid set-to home, finishing in the order named. Carlyon, who had broken down, .was last. Time, 3min 32i«ec.
