CYCLING.

WHEEL NOTES.

By Demon.

The Sydney Bicycle Club have given a donation of £5 to the Bulli Relief Fund.

H. R. Stokes, of the Melbourne Bicycle Club, succeeded in lowering the best Australian record for five miles, on a tricycle, which was 17min 55se<v He accomplished the distance in 16min 131 4>sthsec, for which performance he was londly cheered. ■ The Five-miles Amateur Championship of Victoria was ridden at Melbourne on Saturday, April 23, and won by A. E. Browne, beating Shackelford Busst, and others. ' Time, 15min 21 3rsthsec. The One-mile Tricycle Championship was won by W. P. Harrison. Time, 3min 19 3-sthsec. H. R. Stokes lowered the Australian Five-miles Tricycle record, bringing it down to 16min 31 4-stbsec.

They have a lady bicyclist in Melbourne at the present time. An exchange says :— " She sits side-saddle, and her chief feat lay in guiding her machine through a maze of bottles, stuck into each of which is a small flaming torch.' She managed her wheels most gracefully, some of the turns being performed with considerable dexterity. • , The last lap of the Five-mile Championship Bicycle Race, on Saturday, April 23, was a great struggle between W. J. C. Elliott and A. E. Browne. From the moment the last lap bell rang to the finishing pistol shot, these two riders rode with a vigour and determination seldom excelled. ' Browne led by a wheel the whole way round, and, although Elliott' • strained every nerve to bgat him, he was not able to do «<>. This last quartermile was covered in 38 J-s'hsec. Shackelford and E. Elliott were some 20 yards to the bad at the finish.

The most successful six-rlay — 142 hours — race ever held in America was that which was completed at Minneapolis on a recent Sunday night. Albert Schock, of Chicago, proved the successful man, winning easily by 240 miles, and surpassing Waller's record of 14044 miles, made in 1882. «'-■■■

A remarkable journey was made last summer by James Ricalton, the principal of the Maplewood (N.J;) Academy. Crossing the Atlantic and German' Oceans in the steerage, he reached Archangel on a coasting schooner after several days of' Arctic, Ocean and midnight sun, and started overland for St. Petersburg, trundling with him ,a> curious tricycle of his own make, in which he slept at night, cooked his meals by day, and, used as an umbrella when rain fell. Mr Ricalton shows, in a most entertaining way, that we can see much of the world without necessarily spending much money. W. J. Morgan's ride of 236 miles without dismounting, stamps him - as one of the greatest long- distance riders the world has ever seen. The previous best record was that' of Harry Higham, who, in 1880, rode 230 miles 469 yards. • • * .

— The latest instance of "married in haste " was that of a couple united in matrimony on an Erie express train while it was spinning along at the rate of 40 miles an hour.

." One Bottle did it."— That is the expression of many who have had their gray hair restored to its natural colour, and their bald spot covered with hair,,' alter using one bottle of Mrs S. A. Ai.lk.v's World's Hair Restorer. It is not a dye; it can do not harm. Everyone who has used 1 his preparation speaks loud its praise. If you wish to restoi c your hairlas in .youth, and retain it through life, without delay procure a bottle. Sold eve rywhere.— [Auvt.J
