LATE AGRICULTURAL.
Meetings under the auspices of the North Otago Farmers' Club are to be held in the various centres in Waitaki County on Friday evening for the purpose of discussing the rabbit question, and deciding the advisability or otherwise of encouraging the introduction of the natural enemy. Opinions seem to be divided as to the probability of stoats, ferrets, and weasels proving a benefit or a curse, and these meetings are to be held with a view to obtaining some information on the point.
We (North Otago Times) are informed that it is very probable that a cargo of Californian barley will be imported to Dunlin. On referring to the latest 'Frisco files we find that the best barley is quoted, ex wharf, or ear, at Idol 25c, equal to say, 2s Bd. Adding to this freight, insurance, and other charges, we think it very unlikely that any shipment will be made. Mr Alpheus Hayes, of Waimate, recently obtained an average of 15 tons per acre from 74 acres of bush land planted with potatoes.
