The annual races of the Maori Kaik Racing Club were held on Monday at the Kaik, and con-, sidering the unpromising state of the weather in the morning were well attended. A number of the spectators were conveyed from Dunedin by the steamers Koran ui and Invercargill, and Fortobello aud the surrounding district were well represented. There was a totalisator on the ground, which was worked by Messrs Green and Dow and did a fair amount of business. A protest was entered against Larry, the winner of the Hack Race, on the ground that he was not a district horse, but up to the time of the steamer's departure the question had not been settled. The meeting, as usual, was of a somewhat al fresco character, and the arrangements would have greatly shocked some of the racing authorities. For instance, in one race a horse carried- no leas than Ist 91b overweight. The meeting, however, was an enjoyable one. Appended are the results : —

The three kept well together till the fourth hurdle was reached, when Ogden fell, and dismounting his rider, retired from the contest.
