At the start Orison, on theleft, made play from Purple Emperor, and they were attended on the same side by Guadiana. In the centre was St. Helen, who in turn settled down clear of the Celandine colt and Sir Hugo on the right, with Larkspur, Ginestra, and Hawthorn heading the others. Before half the journey had been completed Orison vanished from the front, and Pnrple Emperor, who had been steering to the centre, then assumed a clear command from Guadiana and St" Helen, these being well ahead of Hugo, Celandine colt, and Ginestra. The attempts of Wood to materially improve the position of the favourite were of no avail, as although he finished third, only a head behind St. Helen, they were easily stalled off by Purple Emperor, who won " anyhow " by four lengnths- Guadiana was fourth. Cnnninghara's Sanctuary, 3yrs, 6st 71b (Chandley) 0 Betting : 7to 2 agst Crafton, 100 to 15 King Moamouth, 100 to 15 Mellifont, 100 to 12 Portnellan, 10 to 1 Theodore, 10 to 1 How's That, 20 to 1 Monsieur de Paris. ' The flag fell at the fourth attempt to a splendid start, and the first to break the line was Monsieur de Paris, who settled down with the lead from Mellifont, Sanctuary, Lonely, and Porfcnellan. These were pursued on the right by Kinsky, and on the extreme left by How's That. King Monmouth and Crafton, with Cardinal Wolsey, Theodore, and Cairo in the middle, and Ashplant last, behind MacMahon and The Sailor Prince. The first half of tho journey had not been completed before Lonely lost her place, and as they approached the rails Monsieur de Paris still led from Mellifont, Sanctuary, How's That, and Crafton, which lot were gradually drawing away from Portnellan and King Monmouth. A little further on Sanctuary beat a retreat, and when Monsieur de Paris and Mellifont resigned at the distance to How's That, Crafton was pulling double on the stand side, so that when Archer let him out in the last hundred yards he instantly went ahead, and won very easily indeed by two lengths, a length and a-half dividing second and third, and a head third and fourth. Portnellan was fifth, King Monmouth sixth, Cardinal Wolsey seventh, Theodore eighth, Kinsky ninth, Cairo, tenth, and MacMahon and Ashplant the whippere-in. Time, 1 mm. 88 l-sth sec. Betting : 2 to 1 agst Pearl Diver, 7to 1 Tyrone, Modwena, and Adelina, 100 to 8 Tib, 100 to 6 Johnny Whimple. Four or five failures ended by Pearl Diver getting away in advance of Present Times, Coruna, and Tib on the left. In the centre were Travaneore, Thunderstorm, and Johnnie Whimple, and on the right Tyrone, Modwena* and Cataract. As they settled clown Pearl Diver was followed in the ordergiven by Tyrone, Modwena, Johnnie Whimple, Present Times, and Tib, and this order was unchanged until Tyrone deprived Pearl Diver of the command at the distance. The favourite then collapsed, Tyrone I went on from Present Times, Tib, Johnnie Whimple, and Modwena to tho stand, where the top weight adandoned pursuit, and Tyrone won easily by three lengths from Tib, a length dividing second and third. Forentine, Enterprise, and Maxim are all engaged in next year's Derby.
