CHRISTOHURCH CORN EXCHANGE.

Report for the week ending 3rd September : — The weather continues unfavourable for farm work, and the season is exceptionally backward as regards sowing and planting. The business transactions for the week have been chiefly confined to ex-store lines, country deliveries being few and far between.

Wheat has had a brisk business, and last week's prices are firmly maintained. Tuscan and pearl are most scarce at 4s 4d, the latter being eagerly taken for local milling. Hunter's has been placed in large parcels at 4s 3d ; second quality ranges from 3s lid to 4s 2d ; and chick wheat, at 3s 7d to 3s lOd.

Oats continue to be offered at prices more favourable to buyers, and last week's quotations show no improvement. Milling are not plentiful at 2s sd ; short feed are dull at 2s 3d to 2s 4d ; and long and inferior kinds at 2s Id to 2s 2d.

Barley. — Very little prime barley is in the market. Second quality is hard to quit at over 2s 8d to 2s 9d ; while feed descriptions readily command 2s 5d to 2s 6d.

Beans and Pease aice quiet, with only a local and seed inquiry. Prices are unaltered. Grass Seeds. — Owing to the backwardness of the sowing season, business in ryegrass has been of a very limited character. Machine dressed is nominally, 5s 3d to 5s 9d ; farmers' parcels are dull at 3s 9d to 4s 3d; cocksfoot, bright heavy clean seed, has orders at 4s,
