THE NEW HEBRIDES.
(Eeuter's Telegrams.) London, August 12. An interview has taken place between Sir Graham Berry and Mr Stanhope, Secretary to the Colonies, regarding the New Hebrides. Sir G. Berry urged that the Imperial Government should, without delay, elicit from the French Government the date upon which the French forces would be withdrawn. Mr Stanhope expressed his concurrence with Sir
Graham's contention, and stated that he believed that France would shortly be obliged to come to a settlement of the New Hebrides question. Paris, August 12. Liberte, in an article to-day upon the New Hebrides question, insists that the occupation of those islands by French troops is temporary, and states that the force will be withdrawn when their presence there is unnecessary in the interests of the French subjects resident at the New Hebrides. (Special to Press Association.) London, August 13. Le Nationale and other French journals express the opinion that Australia had better recognise that France will not evacuate the New Hebrides.
