Two more deaths have occurred at the hospital to-day from blood poisoning, the deceased persons being woi-en. Reports of the recent discovery 'at the Hayelock mine, Maryborough, say that gold is hanging from the reef.

A woman named Hopkins was run over and killed by a train at Newport. She fell off the platform of a railway carriage when alighting, and the train ran over her.

The Seamen's Union, in view of the circular issued by the Shipowners' Association, anticipate being able to drive ocean steamers out of the intercolonial trade by refusing to load them with coal, and in this they rely upon the associated labour bodies.

An alleged swindler named John Fraser was arrested at Newcastle under exciting circumstances. The allegations were that he obtained £90 worth of groceries from Messrs Rowan and Company, of Sydney, saying that he had 20 men engaged clearing land in Singleton. The goods he turned into cash at Newcastle, and a deteotive was on the watch some days, and having at last spied him, made an attempt to arrest him. Fraser bolted, and was chased through the streets with a hue and cry. He at last stumbled and was secured. He was charged and remanded till next day for evidence.

Constable Kennedy, in charge of the Wee Wee Police Station, has committed suicide by shooting himself with a revolver. He had been sixteen years in the service, but had been drinking heavily of late. The Postmaster-general has just completed the necessary arrangements for establishing a parcels post between the colony and the United Kingdom.
