Now, Sir I think that if Otago means to recover her lost laurels in the football field, she is not going the right way about it. In the first place, two afternoons at lea^t every week should beset aside for practice (independent of Saturday^, commencing say at 430 p.m. I don't think either that the Selection Committee make use of all the available talent m Otago, as they have not selected a man trom either Oamaru or Invercargill to come and there are certainly one or two men in these places well fitted to take their places in an interprovincial team, as witness the wav in which Oamaru beat Timaru last Saturday (17 points to nil), and how well Inverqargill holds its own against Dunedin teams, Hoping that

footballers will bestir themselves so that they may give a good account of themselves against Canterbury, — I am, &c.,' Old Footballer. August 9. ... [We understand that practice matches will likely take place on Wednesdays. The Selection Committee are quite prepared to select men from every district of Otago if only those men who are considered worthy of a place will consent to play and not ask for unreasonable expenses. — Ed.
