The start was delayed through the fractiousness of ifellow-hanimer, but at last Mr Watson despatched them to a nice start. Lavington, on the rails, made play, succeeded bj» Camerine, Yellow-hammer, Gardinio, Lesbia, and Cerise and Blue past the stand, with Kit Nxibbles last.
Rounding the turn Lavington was just clear of Onmerine, and the SouLh Australian breasted the hill with the Gippsland mare at his heels, Lesbia and Cerise and Blue coming next, with Honey Bee and Kit Nubbles the rearmost. The order was much the same down the hill to the entrance on the back stretch, where Lavington and Camerine were side by side, followed by Lesbia, Dunlop, and Honey Bee, with Dougalston last. They raced pretty much in this ordt r to the far turn, where Laviugton retired, and Camerine was the leader as they passed tho half-mile post, attended by Yellow- hamnuf and Cerise and Blue. The last-named assumed command before rounding the bend for home, and led into the straight, followed by Dunlop, Lesbia, Camerine, Gardenia, and Claptrap. A capital finish en&ued till inside the distance, where Cerise and Blue and Duulop singled themselves out and ran home together, the latter, on the outside, winning cleverly by A length. Three lengths and a-ha!f separated Ceriso and Blue and Gardenia, and then came Lesbia. Time, 2min 27§sec.
