Our Volunteers.
Cltjtha Rifles. The above corps opened its shooting season oil Saturday last with the first competition for their splendid challenge belt — a trophy presented to the corps by the citizens of Balclutha. The amount of interest excited among the Clufcha shooting men on the match was clearly evinced from the feet that 25 competitors appeared on the range. The competition was
carried on under the most unfavourable circumstances, a strong sou-westerly gale, with blinding showers of sleet and rain, prevailing all the time ; the scoring, therefore, may be considered good. The conditions of the match were : — Five shots at 200, 400, and 500 yards ; sighting shots allowed ; no handicap. Appended are the scores made over and above 40 : — 200 400 500 T] . yds. yds. yds.
