WYNDHAM.

September 9. — The debate at the meeting of the Mutual Improvement Society, held on Thursday evening, was, on the muoh discussed topic Freetrade v. Protection. Mr Millar led off on the Freetrade side, and Mr John Lumsden followed on that of Protection. Messrs Doull, Raymond, and A. Lumsden having spoken on the same side, aud Messrs D. M'Kay, Fraser, and Wood on that of Freetrade, a show of hands was taken, resulting in a majority of one for Freetrade.

Town Board. — The monthly meeting took place on Monday last. Present : Messrs M'Kay (chairman), Winter, Raymond, and Walker. The principal business was deciding what valuation the Board would allow on improvements erected on reserves. — It was resolved to limit the valuation to £200, the board to allow 75 per cent on the amount of valuation. Accounts amounting to £41 8s 9d were passed for payment.
