LAND BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the Land Board was held on Wednesday.' ' There were present — Messrs J. P. Maitland (chief commissioner), Duncan, Green, and Clavk. TIGER Hltt* Mr Connell, on behalf of a settler at Tiger Hill, asked that section 9, block IX, should bo offered under the perpetual lease system instead of the deferred-payment system. — It was resolved to recommend tho Government accordingly. Marshall requested the Board to recommend the Government to open section 28, block XIII, Blackstone,. under the perpetual leasing system, and suggested that the capital value should be fixed at 20s per acre. — Government tobe recommended accordingly. AKATOKJS. R. Aitken applied to purchase sections 15 and part 1 of 17, block I, Akatore, at 20s per acre. — Approved. MAVOUA. Mr Simpson, for J. A. Hodge, applied to be allowed to surrender the license of Run 389, Mavora Lake, as the present rental was too high. — Referred to the Government. NASEBY. J. Lory and F. D., Reid applied to purchase land adjoining sections 4 and 6, block XI. Naseby, under section 28 of "The Land Act 1877."— Referred to the district land officer. HAWXSBURY. Ranger Miles suggested that a graziug right should be given to W. Anderson over occupied land in block I, Hawksbury, on condition that he kept it clear of the rabbits. — Declined. CHATTON. J. Sheppard applied for an agricultural lease over section 5, block XIV, Chatton. — Referred to Ranger Hughan for a report. DEFERRED-PAYMENT. The following new applications were made for deferred-payment land : — P. Leahy, sections I and 2, block XXI, East Gore ; T. W. Nalder, section 78, block I, Otepopo ; J. Shield, section 5, block V, Otara ; J. Shankland, section 6, block V, Otara; J. Cullen, section 14, block XII, Benger. — Licenses to issue. LEASES. , The following applications to purchase land held under deferred-payment lease were approved : — J. Jones, section 10, block V, Chatton; B. Chittock, section 37, block I, Chatton; H. M'Millan, section 40, block 11, and section 48, block 111, Tuapeka West; A. M'Dermid, sections 41 and 42, block 11, Tuapeka West ; J. M'Dermid, sections 21 and 22, block 11, Tuapeka West. The ffollowing applications to purchase land held under exchange lease were approved : — A. 0. M'Kenzie, section 1, block IX, Teviot; G. Munroe) applied for leave, to occupy the mining reserve situate in block IV, Tuapeka Bast, and block X, Waitahuna West, on condition that the land is kept clear of rabbits. — Referred to the district land officer at Lawrence. MOUNT IDA. Mr Connell for the Mount Ida Pastoral Investment Company) applied to purchase 320 acres of Run 219 a, under section 131 of " The Land Act 1877."— Referred to the district land officer for a full report. BENGER. The capital value of perpetual-lease sections 1, 2, 3, and 4, block XV, Benger, was fixed at 20s per acre. 7KANIOTOTO. Mr Connell, 011 behalf of several settlers, requested the board to open sections 3, 7, and S, in block XIV, Maniototo. — It was resolved to recommend the Government to open the sections for agricultural leasing under the Mines Act. J. B. Coram was declared the lessee of perpetual-leas', section 12, block XIV, Maniototo, 320, acres, at the upset rental of Is 9d per acre, under the following circumstances: — At the last meeting of the board Coram tendered for the section at 2s 3d, as did also P. Kearney at 2s OJd. Kearney's tender was found to be informal, through no signature being attached to his declaration. — Mr Connell, who appeared for Ooram, thereupon withdrew his tender, and the same day lodged an application for the section at the upset price. — Mr Green said it • was a great hardship that Kearney should have been thus " diddled " out of the section ; but Mr Connell pointed out that his client would have got it in any case, he being the highest tenderer.
