The hauling machinery was set in motion without the c-ages during the week, and worked splendidly. The cages will l>e attached and hauling from the lower level will commence about Wednesday next. A start has Ivpu made to excavatp a chamfer at the point where (lie reef was cut. and the ne\t work will be to drive along the course of t.he reef to meet the line or supposed line of the win/.c. Inglewood. — The Western reef has l>e"n driven through, aud shows h, thickness of 2ft, but the stoneis a little broken at the point where intersected. .Preparations are now under way for the erection ot a horse whip to haul temporarily from the low level. The battery has been ruuuiug< during the week on a small pared of miscellaneous stone, w liich had accumulated in the battery since the last crushing, the yield of amalgam being as given above. The Inangahua low level is still driving ahead, but there is no change in the formation. Welcome. — This battery was not crushing during this week, aud there was consequently no return of amalgam yesterday. Reeftox, June 29. Wealth of Nations. — Hands have been started to drive on the line of the reef to the north of the main level. The drive is now in about 10ft, and there is a tolerably well-defined track of reef with good wall. The rise is now approaching the foot of the winze, and the connection will be established in tho course of tho week or 10 days. When this is done, operations upon a more extended scale will be entered upon. Luisld. — At a meeting of the directors of the company, held on Saturday evening, a tender was accepted for driving 40ft of tunnels. The lease is situate on the south side of Murray Creek, and is the first mining venture started on that side of the creek, the impression having hitherto been that it was not reefing country. Two tons of stone obtained from a surface block was crushed afc the Treasure battery-some time ago, and yielded something over 4oz of gold per ton. It is to prospect for this reef that the tunnel in question is being put in.
