The lot were despatched at the first attempt ; Lady Clarendon in the centre, making play, with Rosemary and Jane in close attendance, whilst Farewell was next towards the left-hand lot, at the head-of which came Satchel, with Armida, Flores, and Jane well up, and on the far side Charmian was showing prominently, with Maria Renata, Fairyland, and Cipollina next. Except that Satchel gradually improved her position, no other changes occurred in their relative positions until reaching the bushes, where Lady Clarendon gave way, and Farewell drew to the front, followed by Breakfast, Satchel, and Jane. Before reaching tho Abingdon Dip, St. Helena and Breakfast were beaten, and Farewell, increasing her lead as they made tho ascent, won very easily by three lengths; four lengths divided the second and third.
