ENGLISH AND FOREIGN.

TJie English papers are full of statistics concerning tha past season's running. The first table submitted below shows the WINNERS IN ENGLAND.

The following is a list of the PRINCIPAL WINNERS ON THE CONTINENT.

Mr W. A. Long, of New South Wales, figures in the list of winning ownerß in England with £1233 against his name. All this was won by Dame Agnes, a filly that is being backed at outside prices, for the Derby. Appended is a list of the doings for the year of the

The only owner who has a claim upon C. Wood is Sir George Chetwynd, though be generally gives preference to Mr Hammond's and Mr, Peck's stables, when required. Lord Falmouth on his retirement from active patronage of the turf etill continued to pay Archer a " hundred " for the first claim, the Duke of Portland and Lord Hastings conjointly give him £2000 for second, the Duke of Westminster £1000 for third, and Lord Alington £500 for fourth, while Mr " Manton " would allow him to name his own sum in exchange for a definite claim. Prior to the close of the season some words between the Duke of Portland and Archer led to the sending in of his grace's cap and jacket by the latter ; and it is not known whether the famous jockey has since made fresh arrangements for next year. The stallion Macgregor, who will be remembered as the Two Thousand Guineas winner of 1870, and who started one of the warmest favourites ever known for the Epsom Derby, but failed to finish in the first three, dropped down dead on November 29. The son of Macaroni and Necklace appeared in the best of health in the morning, and had just returned from exercise, when he expired. We append the veterinary -certificate :— " I certify that I have thia day made a post-mortem examination of Macgregor, and I find he died from failure of the heart's action, due to fatty degeneration. —Signed, Charles Grea«well, M.R C.V.S." Macgregor, who was foaled in 1867, proved fairly succeanful at the stud,' and last year his progeny Won between them tbe large total of £9381, the Two Thousand Guineas winner, Scot Free, accounting for £4799. Cormeille, MaoAipine, Pebble, Craig Royston, and MacMahcn were othera of his get that last season did honour to his name.

In betting circles on the Derby business has been done as follows : —

A rumour having got abroad that the horse killed was not The Rover, I have been requested to deny the statement of Mr J. W. Canty, V.S., who knew the horse well, haying purchased him for the bankrupt, Mr Shine, in January 1883, from Mr Bonella, of Marshgata, Richmond, England. * The greatest sympathy is felb for Mr Shine. The sale of the bankrupt's stock intrade, which was to have been' sold recently, according to advertisement, had to be abandoned."
