Thb HoMDAYS.-The only really enjoyable day we had here during the recout holidays was Christmas Djy, on which occasion the scholars mtt at the ball for the purpoee of holding a picmc and games. A large number of the nettlera in the district took part in the amusements, and a happy day was spent, concluding with a dance in the evening. t Dairy Factory. - The shareholders of the Fairfax Dairy Company met on Friday and appainted directors, so we may expect that a start will be made soon with the buildings, and arrangements entered into for getting everything in working order in time for next season. I hope the f&efcory will be a success, and will do much good in the district. Southland County Coo*>cn..— The Council met on Friday week. A few new members were returned at last election, and buslneai seem* to ba going on in a more satisfactory manner than was the ca*ie with the last Cou 1011. A great deal ot public money has been frittered away in accordance with the whims aod caprice or to suit the convenience of particu ay individuals to the neglect of the interests of the public at large. As a reaulfc the Council is heavily in debt, and ib is to be hoped that the membra will boldly face the situation, and determine to dtuj juutly with all clasaes, and not favour particular individuals or districts.
