LAND BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the Land Board held on Wednesday was attended by Messrs J. P. Maitland (chief commissioner), Duncan, Green, and Clark.

William Mason asked to be allowed to abandon section 39, block 11, Dart.— Referred to the Chief Commissioner.

An application for a transfer of rural de-ferred-payment seotion 4, block XI, Poolburu, from John Beattie to R. Jenkins, was authorised to be advertised io terms of the Aot.

BOOK AND FXI.LAB.

Mr Connell appeared on behalf of miners objecting to a license being granted to P. A. Connolly to occupy the mining reserve, sections 5, block 11, and 47, block VII, Rock and Pillar. — A report submitted by the District Land Offioer was read, and consideration of the matter adjourned for a week.

WYNDHAM.

It was resolved that seotion 1, block IV, in the township of Wyndham be offered for sale as asked for by the Rev. J. Hobb 1 ? on behalf of the Church of England Committee.

Mr W. L. Simpson (for Henry Campbell, the licensee of run 334b) applied for an alteration of the northern boundary of the said run to the preoipitouß creek as originally leased ; or that he be allowed to abandon all the country now licensed by him as coloured red on plan.— Consideration deferred for a week.

OHATTON.

M. Spratt, licensee of perpetual-lease section 44, block XIV, Ohatton, asked the Board to allow him an extension of time for non-resi-dence on his section, as he had not the means to build at present.— The Board had no power to grant the request.

KAWAHAU.

The District Land Officer forwarded an application by David Reid to purchase section 1, block V, and section 8, blook 111, Kawarau, under section 66 of the Mimes Act.— The Board 'decided to recommend the granting of the application. J. Monorieff's application to purchase seotion 9, block 111, Kawarau, under seotion 66 of the Mines Act was recommended for the favourable consideration of the Government.

TIGER HIM,,

An application by Mr J. A. Connell (on behalf of James Oleary) to obtain a grazing right over sections 2, 3, 4, 19, and 20, block I, Tiger Hill, was made, and consideration of it adjourned till a future meeting.

.The Board decided to recommend the Government to grant the application of J. Weaver to purchase 11 acres under seotion G6 of the Mines Act, being section 10, block I, Fraser district.

Ringer Hughan, reporting on the application of Jameß Grey to purchase part of the coast reserve, blook V, Akatore, stated that it was now resolved to withdraw the application. —Withdrawal agreed to. STBATHTAIEBI. T. Popham was granted leave of absanee from section 13, blook X, Sirath-Taieri, for three months. TDAPEKA. James Wright wrote asking that section 18, blook XIV, Tuapeka West, and seotion 23, block IV, Waipori, be offered for sale with £70 valuation.— Raferred to the Warden for further information. BIiAOKSTONE. Mr W. L. Simpson, on behalf of a settler, asked that section 1, .block XIV, Blackstone, be declared open for application under the agricultural leasing system. — Consideration of the matter was deferred for a fortnight. It was resolved — "That Messrs Clark, Green, and Dunoan be appointed to inspect and report pn land in runß 23a, b, and o, Kurow West, applied for for settlement, and referred to the Board by the Government ; and that the Chief Surveyor be requested to accompany the Commissioners." BALOLtfTHA, An application by G-. Thomson for n Inane of two aoroa between blocks I and XVIII, Balolutha, and the Clutba River, for grazing purposes, was referred to the Borough Council.

A wrestling match took place at Christchurch on the 13th between William Hudson, of Dunedin, champion of New Zealand, and William Bowe, of Christchurch, at the Drillshed. The stakes were £70 a side. Hudson was entirely out of condition, and Bowe scored five falls to Hudson's two, thus winning the match, whioh waa deoided on the first five falls out of nine.

Hearn has gone into active training for his match with Harrington for the championship of New Zealand. He leaves for Rivertou about the middle of next month.

A boxing match took place at Wellington 1 on Monday between Pettiugell and Perry, two local men, for £50 a Bide. It resulted in the latter being knocked out in three rounds after severe pnmshment. , For some two months past the University Tennis Court has been the scene of a series of interesting single and double-handed matches, in which some 40 students have taken part. The final matches of the tournament were played yesterday afternoon. In the single-handed contest Milne and Montgomery tti9d conclusions. The former was evidently not in Mb best form, and Montgomery won somewhat easily. The final round was fought out between tho winner of thia game and F. E. Baume. In this match some good play was shown by both competitors, but Montgomery ran. out when hia opponent had acorod 13, thus winning the gold medal for the University Championship. The final round in the other contest was between Baume and Earle, and Campball and Garrow. Baume and his partner proved themselves more than a inatoh for their opponents, and won easily.
