FRANCE AND SPAIN.

Paris, November 16.

Marshal Serrano,' in presenting his credentials to the President,' said : " King Alfonso desires me to express his sincere wishes for the welfare and prosperity of France and her President. He is convinced, as I am, of the advantages which will accrue to the two countries from the consolidation of the good relations which have united them for so many years. The fruit will be the development of these friendly relations, which are based on so many bonds of union. I will do the utmost in my power to • requite the confidence of King Alfonso by giving constant proofs of these sentiments, which are those of the King, Government, and nation." President Gre"vy replied : "I receive with real pleasure the letters in which King Alfonso accredits an illustrious marshal who made for himself so great a military and political name. No one more than myself sincerely desires the happiness of King Alfonso and the prosperity of the Spanish nation. _ Their community of origin and the identity of their national interests make France and Spain two sister nations, which ought always to remain united, with no thought of the aggrandisement of one to the detriment of the other. Ypu will find here all the sympathy you may desire."
