Tokomairiro Show.
The weather was not exactly all that could be desired for show purposes on Tuesday but it was not bad enough to mihtata against the success of the . Tokomairiro Farmers' Club annual agricultural and pastoral exhibition held yesterday. A smart shower at 1 o'clock no doubt kept a good many intending visitors away, but notwithstanding this there was a very large attendance. It is very satisfactory to nete that the show was superior in nearly every department to that of last year. Indeed it was the best held in this district for many years past, and the entries were 100 in excess of last year s. This surely augurs a more pros-" perous i state of affaire in the district than has been the case for some time past. The competition in horses and cattle was very keen, and some really good stock were shown in these, departmoats. Shorthorns were not so very well represented, however, and neither were merino sheep. In the long-wool pens, however, there were some splendid exhibits that were really very creditable to the district. The show of dairy produce was a good deal above the usual standard, and consequently quite a contrast to that of tha neighbouring show at tho Uutha a few days ago. There was also a better assortment of implements than is generally to be found at country shows. Among the extra exhibits, that from the pottery work* was the most noticeable. The works have again been started, and a good class of wares is still turned out. Mr Titchener with the Industrial School Band was on the eround during the day and the playing of the boys contributed in no small measure, to the enjoyment of the country visitors ,lhe competition in some, of the classes waa exceptionally keen. This was more especially the case in Leicester sheep, and so close was the competition for the prize for the champion ewe that the judges before coming to a decision had to call m a fourth man for advice. Appended will be found dotails of the various awards, with the exception of light horses which were not judged when our reporter left ±ne judging of tlie horses was prolonged for an unconscionably lengthy period, and for th& future the Committee would do well to have the' judging in both light and draught stock Koine on at the same time. s
