Turquoise was scratched. After a good deal of fiddling at the post, the horses were got away to a very indifferent start, Comet and Sir Bedevere being left behind at the post. Master Agnes and The Poet cut out the running, but after a quarter of & mile had been traversed the former bolted off tha course, and was thenceforth out of the race. The Poet maintained the lead, with Violin in close attendance, Tasmau lying third, Emir Bey fourth, and Hercules fifth. On turning into the straight for home The Poet retired, and Tasman began to close up the gap between him and Violin, and at about a hundred yards from home Derritt collared the leader, and landed his mount a rather easy winner by a length, The Poet being a bad third, and the rest hopelessly beaten.
